Keeping Hearing Aids Dry and Working

Moisture is one of the most common reasons for hearing aid malfunction and need for repair. When temperatures rise and/or humidity does as well, it can be beneficial to use drying agents to help aids work better and longer. These can be easily purchased online for a range of costs.

As a starting point, most patients will benefit from an easy, low-cost option like those that are simple jars with a desiccant pack from Hal-Hen, Westone, or Dry Caddy. Aids are placed in the jars for a few hours per week. We especially like those with desiccant packs that can be microwaved and reused.

Some patients that exercise or perspire significantly or that are outside for long periods during the summer may need an electric version that is more expensive and uses fans and/or UV lights for drying. If a patient needs repeated repairs for moisture issues, this type will likely be recommended.

Please reach out to Mobile Audiology of North Texas if you need help with keeping your hearing aids working their best this summer!
