A new study published in JAMA reports that about 65% of the people studied who were 71 years or older have some hearing loss (Reed et al, 2023). For those 90 years and up, about 96% had hearing loss. These numbers show more people have hearing loss than previously thought. Only about 29% of those in the study with hearing loss used hearing aids. It is important to keep researching how many people have hearing loss so we can provide better treatments that are accessible to all.
